Awayday and Tour Rules

Claret Club Awaydays and Tours follow the Rules of Golf, with the following additions.

Stroke and Distance Local Rule

The Local Rule for Stroke and Distance is in operation for all Claret Club Awaydays and Tours.

Awayday Rules

Competitions

All competitions are full handicap competitions (100% of Course Handicap) calculated from each player’s WHS Handicap Index.

Individual Competition

The winner of the Awayday is the player with the highest total Stableford points from his full Course Handicap.

Team Competition

The team competition is dependent on the number of players. Whenever possible there is a team of four competition with the best three Stableford scores counting on each hole. Optionally all scores may count on par threes. If there are any threeball teams, each threeball team counts their second best Stableford score twice on each hole.

On occasion it may be that a three ball format works better for the numbers participating. If, due to number of participants, there are any fourball teams then the calculation above will apply to all threeball teams.

Stakes

£5pp for the team competition.

Tour Rules

Competitions

All competitions are full handicap competitions (100% of Course Handicap). All players start the Tour with their Tour Handicap Index (THI) equal to their WHS Handicap Index. Course Handicaps are calculated from Tour Handicap Indices.

Tour Championship

The Tour Champion is the player with the highest total individual Stableford points from the duration of the Tour. In the case of a tie, the Championship will be decided between the tied players as follows:

a) Highest Stableford points score in the final round
b) Countback on the final round (Back 9,6,3)
c) Highest single round Stableford points
d) Second highest single round Stableford points

Tour Handicaps

After each round of the Championship, the player with the highest cumulative individual Stableford score (and ties) has his THI reduced by 2 shots. The player with the second highest individual score (and ties) has his THI reduced by 1 shot.

After each round of the Championship, the player with the lowest cumulative individual Stableford score (and ties) has his THI increased by 2 shots. The player with the second lowest individual score (and ties) has his THI increased by 1 shot.

The Draw

A random draw is made for the first day groupings. To maximise opportunities for tourists to play with different playing partners, as far as is possible second day groupings ensure that no player plays with more than one of his first day’s playing partners. Depending on numbers, this principle carries forward until the final day. Final day groupings are in order of Stableford points gained to date, with the lowest totals going out first, to the highest totals in the final group.

The Players

Generally groups consist of four or three players, depending on total numbers. Groups of three tee off before groups of four to speed pace of play.

Team Competition

There is a team competition each day, as for Awaydays.

Stakes

£10pp for the Tour Championship. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

£5pp for each of the team competitions. Prize amounts and allocations are dependent upon numbers.
